The Bitesize Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Dictionary

Welcome to the Bitesize NLP Dictionary for items beginning with I. In this section we recommend you take a look at Installation and Integration to give you a taste of the best of Neuro-Linguistic Programming

I

Identity

Your concept of who you are. Your image of yourself, how you see, feel and hear yourself.

item2

Imprint

The triggering of instinctive beliefs and behaviours for example the understand of who your parents are. Imprints are powerful values and beliefs which have been firmly embedded but which can, with some effort, be reprogrammed. Many people consider Love to be an imprint.

item1

In Time

Where you recognise you are here, now, the past and future are currently not significant in your mind, your focus is on the moment.

item3

Incongruence

Where some elements of a given situation cause some form of conflict with behaviours and goals. When incongruence occurs people may have the tendency to say one thing but do another. In a sense, they are not fully aligned.

item3a1

Information

Things we sense which guide us, teach us and cause us to modify our behaviours through learning.

item4

Installation

Attaching new strategies or behaviours to a person or system such that it becomes a part of their behaviour. Examples of installation include learning a language and changing your response to phobias.

item5

Integration

I like to think of integration as the state where the sum of the parts is more than the individual components. It is where our thoughts, senses and actions combine in an unconscious way to provide us with unique behaviours.

item6

Intention

The purpose or reason behind of our behaviours, unconscious or otherwise. In NLP the intention is presupposed to be positive for the person involved.

item7

Internal Ecology

The totality of us and our environment, See also Ecology.

item8

Internal Negotiation

By understanding when we have an inner conflict we can separate the underlying issues and negotiate for a more congruent outcome. Consider the scenario in your mind just prior to a parachute jump.

item9

Internal Representation

The way we store our experiences in our minds. We use our sensory modalities of images, feelings, sounds, tastes and smells and each of us store these items in some unique combination internally to form a memory.
