The Bitesize Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Dictionary

Welcome to the Bitesize NLP Dictionary for items beginning with T. In this section we recommend you take a look at Territory and Trance to give you a taste of the best of Neuro-Linguistic Programming

T

T.O.T.E

An acronym for Test-Operate-Test-Execute which is supposed to describe a clear process with a feedback loop. Personally I find it a bit mad. I prefer something like Plan - Do - Check - Act - Repeat.

item1

Territory

One of the NLP presuppositions is that "The Map is not the Territory" meaning that the map is just a representation of what is actually there. So the territory is what is actually there!

item2

Third Order Change

A change which is two logical levels above the problem so far specified. Sometimes considered an Evolutionary Change.

item3

Third Position

To experience things through the observers eyes using their point of view. This is one of three perceptual positions, the others being Second and Third position.

item4

Through Time

Through time is where people view their time line in front of them in a dissociated way, they see it like a calendar where they are not part of it. They tend to be good time keepers.

item5

Time Orientation

A way of describing someones individual preference for time in their own minds. Do you enjoy nostalgia (past orientation). Do you live for the moment (present orientation). Or are you always planning for tomorrow (Future time).

item6

Timeline

The way we store our memories and perspectives of time past, present and future. I see my future laid out before me, others see themselves with time going from left to right. There is no right answer but it is a really powerful tool to know where your put your own timeline. Learn more here

item8

Tonality

The sound of a voice or experience.

item9

Tote

An acronym for Test-Operate-Test-Execute which is supposed to describe a clear process with a feedback loop. Personally I find it a bit mad. I prefer something like Plan - Do - Check - Act - Repeat.

item10

Tote Model

An acronym for Test-Operate-Test-Execute which is supposed to describe a clear process with a feedback loop. Personally I find it a bit mad. I prefer something like Plan - Do - Check - Act - Repeat.

item11

Trance

An altered state where we are inwardly focused. During trance you are still aware of everything around you. Trance can be elicited by the hypnotic techniques of others or by yourself. We spend a lot of our time in trance, although it might seem obvious driving can often be considered a trance like state.

item12

Transderivational Search

A complex term for a state of mind where you are thinking about something ambiguous, a sort of fuzzy search which, whilst it is occurring, leaves you susceptible to hypnotic patterns.

item13

Translating

Connecting meanings between representations so that you can help people more effectively. Take the example 'I feel stupid' This is a kinesthetic statement so you could match is by saying 'We have something solid to work with lets look at this from a different perspective' which would lead them from a kinesthetic to a visual representation.

item14

Triple Description

Looking at an an experience or behaviour from all three viewpoints, from the First, Second and then Third Position.
