Rapport

A state where two or more people feel a sense of trust, respect and alignment with each other. Often Rapport will be visible as peoples movements and behaviours will be similar. It is a powerful state where both parties are communicating with a sense of belief.

Rapport Leader

An individual, or individuals who have achieved trust and co-operation with a group.

Reality

The things that you believe are real. Where the things you are sensing match with the models in your mind. If you see a lighthouse and you know a lighthouse then it must be a lighthouse in reality (even though, in fact, it might be a house with a shiny satellite dish on top).

Reality Check

Taking time to review what you know and how you know it in order to ensure it is in fact true.

Reductionism

Understanding complex models by reducing them down into smaller elements.

Reframing

To take a behaviour, situation or experience and to change how it is viewed. The obvious analogy here is the 'glass half empty, glass half full' reframe.

Reimprinting

Taking a core limiting belief and altering it so that it is no longer limiting. For example someone who was repeatedly told at a young age that they would not be able to play the piano can have that belief altered to demonstrate that, in fact, anyone can play the piano.

Representation

This is how you store a particular event, experience or moment in your life. It might be pictures, sounds, feelings and is most likely a combination of all through. Everything you recall will be stored in your own unique way.

Representation System

Referring to the sensory systems available when we store an even which are; Visual, Auditory, Kinaesthetic, Olfactory and Gustatory. See also Representation.

Representational System Keywords

Keywords which provide clues to the kind of representational systems we may be using at any given point in time. Words like 'Bright' for visual, 'Loud' for Auditory etc.

Dark

Requisite Variety

To have sufficient flexibility to be able to achieve your particular outcome. The theory being that the person with the most flexible behaviour is likely to get the best outcome. See also Behavioural Flexibility.

Resource

Some knowledge, behaviour, skill, experience, person, tool or understanding which when used appropriately will assist in the achievement of a goal or outcome.

Resource State

Typically a positive experience, behaviour or way of working which can be anchored and recalled on request. Often used as the pre-cursor to demanding activities for example public presentations.

Resourceful State

A psychological state which includes all the necessary tools for a person to feel able to accomplish a particular task or behaviour.

Resources

Knowledge, behaviours, skills, experiences, people, tools or understandings which when used appropriately will assist in the achievement of a goal or outcome.

Revivification

Using a past experience as if it is in the present.
